Sussex Smackdown Empty
PostSubject: Sussex Smackdown   Sussex Smackdown EmptyTue Jan 11, 2011 8:34 pm

So how about that blow out at Sussex last night? The meeting began with a blow out between Committeman Don Ayotte and parliamentarian designee Bruce Fitzgerald. Their very public on line fight spilled quickly into the meeting hall and before long, Chairman Ron Sams completely lost control of the meeting. Former Sussex County Council President Vance Philips was somehow drawn into the fight. Sams eventually gavelled the meeting to a close with no major business being conducted.

Bruce Fitzgerald has evidently withdrawn his own nomination to be parliamentarian of the the county committee. While he and Ayotte appeared to have patched up their differences, many questions remain. Is Ron Sams leadership compromised by last night's events? And how can the Delaware Republican Party ever begin to mount a comeback if its strongest organization is split against itself?

And as for Don Ayotte, who is running for chairman....in November he railed for the head of Tom Ross. Last night it was Bruce Fitzgerald. He's promised in February that the next target will be Ron Sams. Ayotte wants to be state chairman. But at this point one must ask themselves if Ayotte is a leader...or just an agitator?
