Today's Delaware News Journal reports that Senate President Pro Tempore Anthony DeLuca, who narrowly beat back a leadership challenge this year, is now under federal investigation for violating federal conflict of interest laws.
The issue stems from DeLuca being a state senator and at the same time holding a job in the executive branch of government. DeLuca holds a powerful position in the state Labor Department. As a union beholden Senator, DeLuca has the power to see labor laws enacted as leader of the Senate, then to enforce them as he sees fit through his executive branch position.
Note that the News Journal did not mention that DeLuca is a Democrat until after the break on page 18 of the paper.
